Jim specializes in cross-border tax planning and compliance, as well as the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions. As a Partner of Counsel in the Tax Department at Tronconi Segarra & Associates, he advises businesses on international and domestic taxation, tax planning, due diligence, and the execution of business transactions. His clients include professional engineering firms, manufacturers, and businesses across general service industries.
With a career dating back to 1978, Jim brings decades of tax and financial experience to his work. Before joining Tronconi Segarra & Associates in 2012, he spent much of his career with Ernst & Young, where he progressed to Partner in the Tax Department and served on the U.S. Tax Desk in Toronto. His experience includes helping an international company evaluate, structure, and close a $550 million U.S. acquisition, as well as planning tax structures for Canadian businesses entering the U.S. market. His service philosophy centers on teaming with clients to provide practical advice.
Born and raised in Buffalo, Jim enjoys American history, trains, and railroads, and has traveled cross-country by train three times. He is married with two adult children and shares his home with a dog and two cats.
